FLORIDA's WINDOW PUPPIES
I went to Florida (USA) and interviewed owner Dominic Casala of the shop "Diamonds and Doggies".
Walking along Commercial Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale by the Sea in Florida, look at a storefront with neon colored boxes. At the skylight there are a number of curious people looking into the window, one looks closer to the visitors of a giant little bulldog who plays in one of the boxes, in the next maybe a chihuahvavalp sleeps while the third is empty.
On the walls inside the shop hangs cute dresses in different colors: pink, white, blue. Jeans dresses in different equipment with rosettes and pearls. There are sweaters with the text "Bark for a cure" with the pink breast cancer log in the middle of the shirt. There are small hats, cloves and black lacquers or red glittery shoes all for the cute little puppy. The clothes have four small holes for one and each of the small legs. On the floor there are food bowls in carpet, shiny metal colors and sizes
At the glass counter of the shop counter there are bells, jewelry in various colors with diamonds, and silver and gold jewelry for both the dog and its owners.
Diamond & Doggies is the five-year-old family-owned company, selling both puppies and diamond-red jewelry.
-I sold puppies in a South Beach shop for three years, but sold the store to my exfru and has been running a jewel store in New York for 31 years. At last I joined the jewel shop with the puppy shop and opened the shop on the sixth of August 2011, it works perfectly. Dogs attract people and the jewelry is an impulse purchase, says Dominic Casala, one of the owners of the store.
Dominick, his daughter Dominique and his wife Lina Restrepo are the other owners of the successful store selling between twenty to thirty puppies per week. - I have to buy the puppies six weeks before they come to the store and never know how they look when they are born, some see I'm really beautiful others, for example, chiuchua is terrific and looks like little rats with wrenched ears, he says.
Dominick is careful about who he sells his dogs to, and has sold to Norway, Dubai, Norway, Austria, Italy, France, all puppies come from over twenty local and state-approved breeders.
"I've sold puppies, among others, to the singer Lenny Kravitz, actors Eva Longoria, Robin Williams and Adam Sandler," he says, continuing to tell that the dog breed that most sells is the Yorkshire Terrier, Chihuahua, both of which are "tea cups" Takes place in a tea cup and weighs less than two kilograms. Even Maltese and Bulldogs are sold a lot. The dog breed that is the least popular is mini-cheeses and taxis, but Dominick quickly adds that all dogs are popular and very cute.
One day in the dog puppy's life before the male or female cock is bought, looks usually the same. The puppy sleeps up to eight hours a day and is awake six hours. - They are like fat husbands who work twenty minutes and then sleep for two hours. It's the same with these puppies, says Dominick He is similar to the puppies of lazy spouses. Then he tells the puppies eat three times a day and the morning routine begins by bathing the little ones, allowing them to be towel-dried, then the claws are cut and the small ears are cleaned. It's like a nice spa where the dogs are well taken care of, he says.
Because the dogs are too young to walk along Commercial Boulevard's thriving pedestrian street, the puppies get out every hour and play in one of the two play cages in the shop together with one or two little comrades. The puppies "live" in boxes with glass windows, the windows look both towards the shop as well as the pedestrian street and the staff are always out in the shop to make sure nobody tapes the glass window. There are also colored pieces with the text "Please do not tap on glass" there are also the puppy's breed as well as the year, month and date of birth of the puppies.
The dog cages are cleaned once every hour and every time a puppy needs his cage, there is always someone in the staff who quickly cleans. In each doghouse, puppies have access to water, air conditioning, ventilation systems, toys, bed and duvet and thermostat for temperature control. Inside the cage are the dogs protected, so nobody can finger or touch them with their dirty hands, as Dominick says during the interview. The sounds of curious voices, laughter, and loud music do not disturb the dogs, as they have become used to the sound after being out of the customer's fathers and in the playgrounds. Often, someone wants to cuddle with the puppies, hold them in their arms and then Dominick or the other employees are quick to help.
When the customer decides to buy a puppy from Dominic Casala and his family, the new owner gets along; Pedigree and breeder information, registration certificate from the American Kennel Club, one month's free health insurance for the Trupanion puppy. And when all dogs go to NutriSource puppy lining, a special dry lining with natural ingredients, the new owner gets a bag of home. The dog also gets seven days at Doggie Daycare at Barkers Pet Resort in Florida. All puppies are microchip-labeled and before the little puppy gets home to his new family, the dog's health is carefully examined, as well as vaccinated by Doctor B and Doctor Gary Edelson at Imperal Point Animal Hospital in Fort Lauderdale. This will be worth $ 600, which corresponds to 4200kronor, depending on what the dollar is in.
If the new owner, for example, from Norway, the customer, Dominic Casala, pays 100 dollars, equivalent to 700 SEK, to call the airline. The owner and the puppy travel to check if the dog is fit for the seat and if the airline receives dogs on the plane. He also arranges all the paper and makes sure the dog gets through all the customs. -Australia and the UK do not sell at this time because I do not want my puppies to be quarantined, as long as you have the right paper, it's no problem to go through the customs," says Dominick Casala, raising his dog Mia who has come for To check if the house is ready with the interview.
